A Winter’s Walk in Versailles

There is not much to add to what has already been said about Versailles, except that I am so very glad we visited on a sunny winter’s Wednesday in February. The lines for the château were bearable and the gardens were extraordinary in all their stark splendor. We walked for several hours and still could not cover more than half the grounds. It was sparsely attended, and at times it seemed we had it all to ourselves.

Take a looksy.

We’ve decided to return to the gardens (which, unlike the palace, are accessible free of charge) in the summer before we fly back to the United States. I am eager to witness its transformation when the flowers and trees are in full bloom.

  1. I hope you will be able to return in the summer or maybe the spring. It is divine when the trees have leafs, the grass is freshly mowed and the flowers are out. You feel like royalty yourself walking the grounds.
